Sterner has published about hundred articles in refereed journals. Thomas Sterner is professor of environmental economics focused on the design of environmental policy instruments. Recent research focuses on issues of acceptability of policy instruments, their distributional effects and ways of making efficient instruments such as taxes more acceptable by refunding or using revenues constructively. Thomas Sterner works with the Office of the Chief Economst, participating in various projects related to climate, energy, fisheries and ecosystems. Thomas served as EDF's Visiting Chief Economist from 2012 to 2013. Thomas is professor of environmental economics at the University of Gothenburg.
